Looking for a lesser-known piece of American surplus history? The Navy's N4 jacket is a lightweight and stylish choice for any WW2 enthusiasts or vintage Americana connoisseurs. Featuring a flannel lining and comfortable slant pockets, the N4 is an ideal jacket for just about anyone.
The History:
Well after the infamous M-41 Field Jacket started to be replaced, 1944 would see the US Navy adopt a simplified version of the maligned design. The N4 was conceived as a lighter and more streamlined alternative to the famous N1. Retaining the M-41's flannel lining, button flap/zipper combination, and overall silhouette. The lighter materials and lack of a pile liner made for a much less restrictive jacket. Overall, the N4 was designed for Navy personnel who found themselves working on or off board in milder climates. Thanks to this context, the M-41 had finally proven successful, if spiritually.
